Starring Aparna Sen

Aparna Sen the actress would have been a household name if it wasn’t for Aparna Sen the director. Making her debut at the tender age of 16, Aparna played the role of Mrinmoyee in Satyajit Ray’s 1961 film Teen Kanya. In 1965, she shone in the spotlight in Mrinal Sen's Akash Kusum. From then till the end of the 1970’s, she acted in a few more Bengali films.

Not everyone gets an opportunity to work with Merchant Ivory. With the film, Guru of 1969, Aparna Sen did. After which, Bombay Talkies of 1970 and Hullabaloo Over Georgie and Bonnie's Pictures in 1978 followed suit. Aparna also acted in several of Satyajit Ray’s films, including Pikoo in 1981, where she played the role of an adulterous wife and mother.

After Pikoo, Aparna gave up acting to pursue life behind the camera. A move that proved to make Indian cinema richer than ever before.
